Mrs. Bradley's Grade 2
Students arrived at their table to discover a messy pile of base 10 blocks. Their task was to "clean up a mess" to use the least number possible. In other words, they had to regroup the loose ones into tens so there were less individual pieces and then count how many they had in all. Once the piles were cleaned up, it was easy to count by 10s to find the total. We also practiced regrouping on the Smartboard by grouping the loose ones into a ten and figuring out how many blocks there were in all.
